Library

The Library is your personal space (it requires signing in): it's where you organise, find, share and manage your songs and collections. The Library doesn't create or edit songs — writing happens in Write and reading in View; here you put them in order, share them and curate their access.

How it's organised

  • Personal — your material, in three tabs:
    • Songs — your songs (created by you, owned by you, ones you collaborate on or are subscribed to);
    • Books — collections of songs;
    • Playlists — ordered setlists of songs.
  • Public — the public catalogue: Songs and Books shared by the community, which you can browse and subscribe to.
  • Create — to create a new song (opens Write), a new book or a new playlist.

At the top there's a search bar that searches the document name, the title and the credits (music, lyrics, arrangement, transcription). To search by tag type # followed by the tag or part of it (#jim finds jim-belushi-show): in your songs it searches public and private tags, in the public catalogue the public ones.

Each tab has its own filters and sorts:

  • Songs — filter by role (creator / can modify / view only), state (stable / wip), sharing (private / with link / public) and rating; sort by name, title, recently added, recently opened, sharing state, top rated.
  • Books — filter by role and sharing; sort by name, recently added, most songs.
  • Playlists — sort by name, recently added, most items.
  • Public — sort and search (text or #tag); from here you can subscribe to a song or a book to add it to your material.

From the filters you also choose the view (List or Grid) and the density (Comfortable or Compact). From the keyboard, / puts the cursor in the search bar and Cmd/Ctrl+K opens the palette: search for a song or jump to a section by typing its name.

The detail panel and the actions

Selecting an item opens a detail panel (to the side) with its metadata and the available actions. On a song you typically find:

  • Open — opens the song in View;
  • Edit — opens the song in Write;
  • Share — opens the sharing window (see Links & sharing);
  • Add to Book / Add to Playlist — adds the song to a collection or a setlist;
  • Export NRK — downloads the song's .nrk file;
  • Manage roles — manages collaborators and permissions (only if you're the creator/owner);
  • Save for offline — downloads the song to this device, so it opens in View and in Write with no connection too (Remove offline copy removes it);
  • Enable review — turns on review comments for the song (only the creator or an owner): whoever has a role on the song, even just as a viewer, can comment on it measure by measure in View;
  • Delete — deletes the song (creator only), with confirmation;
  • Resign / Unsubscribe — resign from a role or cancel a subscription to someone else's song.

From the panel you can also rate the song (stars), view and manage the tags (public and private; as you type it suggests the ones you already use, confirm with Enter or ✓), and consult its metadata (title, subtitle, credits, key, meter, style, BPM, presence of lyrics, dates).

Whose song it is. On songs you didn't create, both the list row and the detail panel show the creator's avatar and @username. In the panel, the Sources line also says why the song is in your Library: your role (owner, collaborator, viewer), your subscription, or the book it comes from. On your own songs it says “your song”.

Renaming and versions

From here you can rename a song (from the detail panel, by clicking the name — creator only; renaming can also be done from Write). You see songs with their states (wip / stable) and you can make a Release. The model of name-vs-title, versions and states is described in Song.

Clicking the version number (v…) in the detail panel opens the list of saved versions. Next to each one, the link icon (Copy link to this version) copies to the clipboard a link that opens exactly that version in View. A link to a wip version may stop working after a Release, because the intermediate versions are deleted. If at least one version wasn't saved by you, each version shows the avatar and @username of whoever saved it. It's the same list that opens in Write.

Sharing and managing access

From the Library you share a song — the three kinds of link (fly / hard / reactive) with a QR code, see Links & sharing — and you manage who can do what via Manage roles (invite by email, transfer the creator role, remove). A song's access setting can be private, with link, with protected link, or public. For the roles and their capabilities see Roles.

Sharing requires a confirmed email and a username: to make a song or a book public, to turn on a link (also on a playlist), to invite someone and to accept an access request; receiving a transfer only needs the username. The username is the name others see on your songs: you choose it once and can't change it. If something is missing, both the Library and the bell let you do it on the spot: first the email confirmation (open the link in the email you got when you signed up and press I confirmed it; if you can't find it, Resend email: only the link in the most recent email works), then the username.

You change the access setting from the sharing icon in the detail panel (creator only). From there, for a protected link, you also choose Add password, Change password or Remove password. The password has at least 4 characters, letters and numbers only, and is shown only once when you set it: write it down. When you change it, the old one stops working.

Before you make a song public, the Declare origin and licence window opens: choose which of these is true (you're the author; the work is in the public domain; it's under a licence that allows this use; you have the rights holders' permission) and confirm with Make public. The declaration is recorded. The same window appears when you publish a book containing songs of yours that aren't public yet, and when you make several songs public with multiple selection. Making a song public can't be undone.

Books and Playlists

From the Library you also create and manage collections:

  • a book is a collection of songs: add/remove songs, set a cover and description, publish it, export it to .nrk, save it for offline (all its songs), subscribe to public ones by others. Refresh all summaries (for the creator, owners and collaborators) brings each song's information in the book up to its latest version and removes songs that no longer exist or, in a public book, are no longer public; Refresh summary does the same for a single song. What a book is → Book.
  • a playlist is an ordered setlist: add and reorder items (by dragging), set transpose/ notes/form for each one, share and export it. What a playlist is and how it's performed → Playlist.

Sharing and joining a playlist. From the sharing icon next to the name, the creator chooses whether the playlist is private, shared by Link or by Protected Link (with the same items to add, change or remove the password). Whoever opens the link, after signing in (and entering the password, if the link is protected), joins the playlist: they find it in their Library as a viewer.

Songs you don't have yet. If a playlist contains public songs that aren't in your Library, Add all to library subscribes you to all of them at once. Private songs you can't access show a padlock: click it to request access from the song's creator.

Importing and exporting

  • Importing: drag a .nrk file into the Library. If it's a single song it's added to your Songs; if it's a collection (book or playlist) a window lets you choose how to import it and whether the songs should be references or frozen copies.
  • Exporting: you download a single song, a book or a playlist as .nrk.

Multiple selection

By turning on multiple selection (up to 100 songs) you can apply bulk actions: add a public or private tag, make public, add to a book or a playlist, enable or disable review, remove. At the end a summary tells you how many songs succeeded, how many were skipped and why.

Account and data

In the sign-in and sign-up forms, the eye in the field (Show password) reveals what you are typing; on sign-up it reveals password and confirmation together.

From the account page you manage your profile (avatar, display name, username), email verification and password reset (if you sign in with a password), the interface language (EN/IT/FR) and the links to privacy and terms. In addition:

  • Email notifications — notifications always appear in the app; here you choose which ones you also get by email: Invitations & requests, Outcomes (an invitation or transfer of yours accepted or declined) and Loss of access.
  • Export your data — you download a ZIP archive with your songs (re-importable .nrk), the metadata of books and playlists, your profile and settings (GDPR right of access/portability).
  • Account deletion — you can delete it with a 30-day grace period (reversible) or immediately; any pending transfers must be resolved first.

Notifications

The bell at the top gathers invitations (to a role on songs, books or playlists), pending transfers and access requests to a private song of yours, plus notices about what changes in your content (a role removed, an invitation accepted, an item deleted).

If a public song of yours is removed from public access following a report, the notice appears here with the reason. With Object you write a statement explaining why the content should be restored: it's sent to the moderation team. Dismiss closes the notice.

Support

To send a private message to the Leadsheet.app team, open your avatar menu (in the Library or in Write) and choose Support: enter a subject and the message, then Send Message.
